Definition:
Nitrogen (N2)
is a tasteless, odorless, colorless, gaseous chemical element
constituting ±78% of the atmosphere by volume. It is found
in all living organisms.
Toxicological Properties:
Nitrogen is inert and non-flammable. It is a simple asphyxiant
and will not support respiration. Large amounts in a confined
area could displace the amount of oxygen in air necessary to
support life. Contact with liquid (cryogenic) nitrogen
or cold piping containing liquid may cause tissue freezing or
frost bite.
